Labour Support Workshop, Kingston
This program is intended for interprofessional health care providers.

You qualify for a partner rate if you are an employee of one of the organizations below: 



If you are an employee (e.g. RN, RPN, RT, SW) currently working in the Birthing Unit, the Mother-Baby Unit or the SCN/NICU of CHEO, The Ottawa Hospital or Kingston General Hospital. 


If you are an employee of one of these hospitals but currently working on another unit or department, you qualify for a Hospital Partners rate.  Partner fee - $195.00

If you are an employee of the following hospitals:


Almonte General, Brockville General, Cornwall Community, Hawkesbury and District General, Montfort, Pembroke Regional,  Perth & Smiths Falls District, Queensway Carleton, Quinte Health Care, Winchester District Memorial.   Partner fee - $195.00



If you are an employee of the following:

Ottawa Public Health, Carlington CHC, Centretown CHC, Somerset West CHC; or the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre.  Partner fee - $195.00



If your organization is not a contributing partner of CMNRP, or you are not an employee of the organizations mentioned above. (e.g. resident, midwife, physician, student).


Other Stakeholders fee - $250.00

Event Description

This one-day program is intended for perinatal care practitioners (e.g., nurses, physicians, midwives, doulas) who want to learn and apply the concepts and techniques of labour support.



  • Discuss what contributes to positive and negative memories of the birth experience for women
  • Discuss current recommendations about labour support
  • Describe the latest research evidence about labour support
  • Describe and demonstrate various support techniques through the different stages of labour, emphasizing non-pharmacologic methods of pain relief
  • Review various movements and positions for labour and birth, and discuss how they can influence birth outcomes
  • Discuss documentation and evaluation of labour support activities

There is no pre-reading for this workshop.  Participants must bring the Labour Support-Manual to the workshop (to be downloaded upon registration).

Cancellation less than 2 weeks prior to the workshop will be subject to a $50 administration fee.
